What Is the Washington Business Journal Best Places to Work Award?

The WBJ’s annual Best Places to Work program recognizes the 100 Greater Washington-area employers that score highest on an independent employee engagement survey. Rankings are determined entirely by employee responses.

The survey evaluates key dimensions of a healthy workplace, including trust in leadership, team effectiveness and dynamics, employee retention and long-term satisfaction, and overall engagement and morale.

Washington Business Journal Best Places to Work (2007–2008, 2010–2013, 2015–2024, 2026) — Published May 2026. For the Washington Business Journal Best Places to Work program, employees of nominated companies are asked to complete an employee engagement survey. Companies are ranked, and finalists are chosen in each category according to their overall engagement score. The overall number of responses is also factored into the engagement score. Cassaday & Company paid a $250 application fee to participate in the Washington Business Journal Best Places to Work program. Winners are chosen based on the results of the employee engagement survey.
